At Fives, we all have a part to play in achieving our common mission. Your role will be to:
- Perform a variety of fabrication inspections such as dimensional, squareness, flatness, roundness to within 1/16” shop tolerance or drawing specifications and standard operating procedures.
- Perform Visual Testing, Mag particle, and Liquid penetrant testing as required per AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.9 as required.
- Initiate the NCR (Non-Conformance Report) process and assist in tagging and communicating repair or replacement decisions.
- Work directly with Engineering on a wide variety of issues including correcting print errors, design for efficiency and value adding operations and total quality checks to complete cost-effective routings.
- Coordinate Fab and Construction employees to resolve problems with, parts setups, routings and quality issues.
- Train employees in the operation of inspection equipment, print interpretation and the basics of quality.
- Act as liaison between Fab, Construction, Engineering and Purchasing and /or the vendors for the disposition of the questionable parts, workmanship and engineering issues.
- Must have a high initiative to work independently, often on multiple projects at one time to maintain flow of parts based on production and assembly requirements.
- Maintain work areas in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
- Detect and report any unusual conditions or faulty material.
- Maintaining your personal work area in a clean and orderly manner.
- Wearing, maintaining and properly storing your personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Attending all safety training that your employer offers.
- Volunteering to serve on your Safety Committee.
- Using safe work practices to eliminate slips, trips and falls.
- Lifting safely and helping others to do the same.
- Labeling all chemical containers and becoming familiar with material safety data sheets.

- Have a working knowledge of electronic levels, hardness testing equipment, micrometers, verniers and other various electronic and hand gages to inspect parts for tolerances, specifications, finish and material requirements, workmanship and subassemblies as required by the operation sheets, instructions, prints, etc.
- Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, basic statistics, ISO procedures, gage calibration.
- Experience with AISC certifications.
- Experience with AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.3
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
- Vocational school training or apprenticeship training preferred.
- 4-6 years related experience and/or training.
- VT level 1, MT level 1, PT level 1, AMPP level 1
