Pay Range: CODER III - $37.92 to $60.68

Job Summary:

Assures the accurate coding of diagnosis and procedure codes within assigned services. Conducts education, training, and continuously monitors coding and documentation of professional services rendered in accordance with government, insurer, and other regulatory agency standards. Assists with clinical and financial assessments and/or reporting for medical staff and other hospital personnel as it pertains to coding, grouping and clinical abstracting of data in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Licensure and Certification:

• Certification as an Outpatient Physician Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician based (CCS-P)
• CPC-A accepted if work experience is met.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience in a professional coding role with ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPC's coding.
• One year experience in hospital outpatient coding preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems
• Knowledge of APC's, E&M coding and Modifier usage
• Computerized medical records coding and abstracting experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and database applications
• Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Detail oriented with an analytical mind set
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work load
• Proven ability to function on a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to work independently

• Computer, fax, scanner and encoder

Physical Demands - Clerical/Administrative Non-Patient Care:

• Frequent sitting and standing/walking with frequent position change.
• Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
• Occasional/intermittent reaching at or above shoulder level.
• Occasional/intermittent bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
• Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Continuous use of near vision, hearing and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties.
