The Opportunity: We are currently seeking a
Director, Building Services to join our Indianapolis, Indiana office and lead critical plan review and inspection services across
Indiana and Kentucky. In this leadership role, you will oversee building plan review and inspection services to ensure construction projects comply with applicable building codes, fire protection standards, and accessibility requirements. You will guide teams responsible for reviewing construction plans, conducting field inspections, and supporting clients in navigating regulatory compliance for new construction, renovations, and occupancy changes.
This position is ideal for a professional with 10+ years of experience in building code enforcement, plan review, or inspection, including leadership experience managing teams or offices. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of projects while supporting municipalities, architects, engineers, and contractors throughout the building approval process.
What You'll Do: As Director, Building Services, you will lead regional building services operations while ensuring consistent delivery of plan review and inspection services. You will provide technical guidance on code compliance, oversee staff and project assignments, manage contracts and client relationships, and support municipalities and private clients with regulatory expertise.
Key Responsibilities: - Oversee building plan review and inspection services for projects including new construction, additions, renovations, and changes of occupancy.
- Ensure plan reviews and inspections are conducted in accordance with adopted statewide building codes and applicable regulations.
- Review construction documents and prepare technical reports identifying code compliance issues and recommended corrections.
- Conduct or oversee on-site building inspections to verify compliance with approved plans and applicable codes.
- Perform Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II accessibility audits.
- Provide technical guidance on building codes and regulatory requirements to architects, engineers, contractors, property owners, and municipal clients.
- Manage project assignments, track plan review progress, and coordinate review schedules for multiple clients and jurisdictions.
- Develop and manage contracts, proposals, and budgets for plan review and inspection services.
- Present proposals, contracts, and project updates to clients or legislative bodies as required.
- Maintain accurate records of contracts, plan reviews, inspections, and project documentation.
- Monitor changes to building codes, laws, and regulatory requirements and ensure staff remain informed and compliant.
- Maintain required International Code Council (ICC) certifications and continuing education requirements.
- Lead and mentor building services staff, supporting professional development and operational excellence.
What You'll Bring: - 5+ years of experience (10+ preferred) as a plan examiner and/or building inspector with demonstrated knowledge of construction principles, practices, and procedures.
- Extensive experience interpreting and applying statewide adopted building and fire codes, including structural, fire protection, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, accessibility, flammables and combustibles, exhaust hood systems, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and other applicable regulations.
- Accredited college training in Architecture, Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural or Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Construction Technology preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience supervising or managing an office of building inspectors and/or plan reviewers, including experience with budgeting and operational oversight preferred.

- Certified Building Official (CBO)
- B-3 - Building Plans Examiner
- B-2 - Commercial Building Inspector
- B-1 - Residential Building Inspector
- Commonwealth of Kentucky Certified Building Inspector
- Additional Certifications (Preferred / May Substitute for Experience)

Skills & Competencies: - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills when working with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners.
- Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills when addressing code compliance issues.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, priorities, and plan review timelines efficiently.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and project management systems such as Ajera.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work in varied field conditions including inclement weather, climbing stairs or ladders, stooping, crawling, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while maintaining awareness of active construction equipment.
