Role Overview
We are hiring an Associate General Counsel to serve during a period of hypergrowth. This role reports directly to the General Counsel and will focus on product, commercial, and marketing matters. It is an opportunity to shape and scale an emerging Legal function that also serves as business thought partner and guide. A successful candidate will be a high-energy problem-solver who consistently drives results.
This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles.
Compensation : $250,000–$300,000
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with the product development teams to provide legal and strategic risk‑mitigation advice on a variety of topics such as privacy, data security, and IP.
Grow and operate a global privacy and data protection compliance program.
Advise the marketing team on advertising, intellectual property, and consumer protection issues.
Partner with the growth and sales teams to draft and negotiate complex commercial transactions.
Build out legal and operational infrastructure so risk is managed in an efficient and scalable way.
Stay current on legal developments relevant to AI companies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Strong knowledge of state and international privacy and data protection laws.
Solid understanding of commercial terms used in complex SaaS, enterprise, marketing, and other commercial agreements.
Working knowledge of intellectual property, secondary liability, marketing, and consumer protection laws. Curiosity and discipline to learn new areas of law to meet business needs.
Low‑ego, "doer" attitude that eagerly tackles projects large and small – not an equivocator, mere delegator, or overly reliant on outside experts.
Comfort in a fast‑paced, results‑oriented environment with colleagues in distant time zones.
Crisp, business-friendly communication skills.
J.D. and active membership in at least one state bar.
8+ years of experience practicing law. Meaningful in‑house experience at a high‑growth tech company strongly preferred.
