Position Description

Department Name : Nursing

Job Title : Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Reports to (Title) : Director of Nursing

Supervises : (Positions) LPN’s and CNA’s.

I. Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Emergency Room Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Macon County General Hospital. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the health care team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements and coordinates treatment plans for the patient’s medical condition. The RN acts as a Charge Nurse or Staff Nurse.

II. Position Requirements :

A. Licensure / Certification / Registration : Current registered Nursing License in the State of Tennessee.

B. Education : Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

C. Experience : One (1) year experience in acute care, or skilled nursing facility preferred.

D. Special qualifications : Current licensure in the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse. BLS – health care provider. Good communication skills, both orally and written. Some computer knowledge would be helpful. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

III. Degree of Supervision Required : Involves general guidance by Supervisors and / or Department Manager. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

IV. Ages of Patients Served :

This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and / or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his / her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

VI. Physical Requirements : Must be able to climb, kneel, stop and perform assigned duties under semi-stressful situations. Physical demands require performing heavy cleaning projects with short notice. Visual acuity is required in order to ensure that work is being done correctly. Work is moderately heavy with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds or more with assistance, and pushing up to 300 pounds. Work also involves considerable walking, standing, pushing and pulling of equipment. Frequent lifting of patients with assistance. Must have full use of upper and lower extremities and the ability to walk up to three (3) miles per shift.

VII. Personal Protective Equipment : This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks / activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, gloves, masks and safety glasses.
