Title : Medical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) – Laboratory Services
Location : Baltimore, MD
Duration : 13 weeks
Shift : Days, 5x8-Hour (07 : 00–15 : 30), Monday–Friday
Job Responsibilities :
\t
Perform comprehensive blood bank testing including ABO / Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, crossmatching, antigen typing, and transfusion reaction workups
\t
\t
Conduct blood banking procedures such as AHG and electronic crossmatches, Rhogam screening, thawing and cooling of blood products, and component preparation
\t
\t
Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen handling in compliance with laboratory and transfusion safety standards
\t
\t
Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation across blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology sections as assigned
\t
\t
Review, validate, and report laboratory test results in a timely and accurate manner using the Epic charting system
\t
\t
Perform quality control, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; review and interpret QC data
\t
\t
Accession, process, and prepare specimens including pipetting, specimen transport, and storage
\t
\t
Adhere to infection control practices, hazardous material handling, and proper disposal procedures
\t
\t
Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams including phlebotomy and clinical staff
\t
\t
Participate in orientation and comply with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
\t
Required Skills & Experience :
\t
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
\t
\t
Blood Bank experience required (hard stop)
\t
\t
Strong hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation
\t
\t
Experience in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology testing preferred
\t
\t
Ability to work independently and manage workload in a hospital clinical laboratory setting
\t
Required Certifications & Licensure :
\t
ASCP or ASCP-MLS certification (required)
\t
\t
BLS – American Heart Association (required)
\t
\t
Active Maryland or Compact Medical Laboratory license (required at time of submission)
