Senior Vice President Of Patient And Market Access

The U.S. Patient and Market Access team is dedicated to ensuring patients have access to Takeda medications and have the best possible experience while utilizing them. The team's remit includes all aspects of market access including direct customer-facing account teams for payers, PBMs, specialty and retail pharmacies, GPOs and distributors and a strategic team that develops all pricing, access, contracting, channel, reimbursement and distribution strategies. The team also is responsible for patient services and patient support programs including field-based access and reimbursement teams, internal hub case managers and all operational aspects of PSPs including data and analytics, training, quality, systems, and vendor management. We believe an integrated team allows for a more holistic approach to access and increased agility to support patients in an ever more complex healthcare environment.

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Vice President of Patient and Market Access to lead our efforts in ensuring patient access to our innovative therapies. The SVP will be responsible for leading a team that develops and executes strategies that optimize patient access, reimbursement, availability, and affordability for our products in the US market. The SVP will also serve as an enterprise-wide leader on the USBU executive Team (ELT) and the broader global Takeda Leadership Team (TLT).

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the US healthcare system, including payer, PBM, specialty pharmacy, and distribution dynamics, and will have experience in leading account teams and direct multi-billion negotiations across a broad portfolio of medical and pharmacy benefit products. The ideal candidate will also have led teams in navigating complex reimbursement and access challenges for patients and will have a track record of building diverse teams and creating an inclusive environment where everyone can bring their entire selves to their roles.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Providing overall direction to the U.S. Business Unit (USBU) on portfolio and product-level pricing, access, reimbursement and affordability strategies and programs. This includes in-line products, line extensions and new product planning.
  • Serving as a high-performance contributor on the USBU Executive Leadership Team in helping to achieve organizational financial and non-financial KPIs.
  • Working closely with U.S, Public Affairs, and other internal stakeholders to help the USBU understand, shape and prepare for market-driven and legislative / regulatory changes.
  • Serving as the final negotiator on muti-billion dollar agreements across payers, PBMs, specialty pharmacy, retail pharmacy, GPO and distribution customers.
  • Ensuring industry-leading patient support programs, embracing latest technology and human-centered design principles.
  • Leading a diverse team of professionals and creating an equitable and inclusive environment where team members can each leverage their expertise to better support patients and each other.
  • Serving as a TLT thought-partner, close collaborator, and USBU point of contact with the US Oncology Market Access and Patient Services teams, Global Manufacturing and Global Market Access organizations.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 20 years of experience within a major global pharmaceutical or biotechnology company with a proven track record of building and leading high performance, diverse teams, as defined by business results; experience should include a broad portfolio including specialty and rare products.
  • 15 years of experience managing teams specifically within Market Access; ideally some experience in global, regional or OUS markets.
  • Deep understanding of the US healthcare system, including payer, PBM, GPO, specialty pharmacy, distributor and provider dynamics, and experience navigating complex reimbursement and access challenges.
  • Established leadership-level relationships with payers, PBMs, GPOs, specialty pharmacies and distributors.

    For Location : Boston, MA

    U.S. Base Salary Range : $352,800.00 - $485,100.00

    The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and / or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

    U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and / or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
