Description :
The Part-Time Group Fitness Instructor is an integral part of our fitness team, working under the guidance of the Health Club Manager. You will be responsible for creating and leading engaging exercise classes that cater to the needs of our members.
HOURS :
Classes are scheduled on Fridays from 8 : 30 AM to 2 : 30 PM, teaching approximately three classes. Additional opportunities for covering other classes may also be available.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Design and choreograph classes, selecting appropriate music while adhering to fitness standards and guidelines such as those from AFAA / AEA, including warm-up, cardio, strength training, and cooldown.
- Evaluate participants' needs, modifying programs to ensure accessibility and effectiveness for all fitness levels.
- Inspire and motivate participants to achieve their fitness goals and maintain high energy during classes.
- Keep an accurate attendance record for each class to assess program performance.
- Follow the fitness guidelines set forth by the Health Club Manager.
- Arrange appropriate substitutes for classes when you are unavailable.
- Possess a strong understanding of aquatic exercise principles and water safety for relevant classes.
- Ensure all members and guests adhere to the established rules and policies of the Health Club & Spa.
- Build positive relationships with members by being approachable and available to address questions or concerns, promptly informing the Health Club Manager of any issues.
- Monitor participants' health and safety during classes, reporting any concerns as needed.
- Maintain records of any incidents, following the required protocols.
- Observe and assess members' physical, emotional, and mental health, alerting the Health Club Manager of changes that may affect programming.
- Communicate relevant updates about members with the fitness staff.
- Attend scheduled meetings and other required gatherings.
- Actively represent the Wellness / Fitness Center on community and state committees in consultation with your supervisor.
- Provide ongoing education to community members, staff, and families about available wellness programs and services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Formal education in adult fitness programs is preferred. You should have a minimum of one year of experience teaching aerobic, cardio, or aquatic classes, particularly with older adults, and experience with individuals who have physical or cognitive challenges is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Current certification from a recognized fitness organization (such as American Council on Exercise, AFAA, AEA) is required, along with CPR / AED / First Aid training. Strong understanding of kinesthetic programming for older adults is essential, as well as the ability to handle emergency situations with sound professional judgment.
