Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is part of the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) and has three academic programs: CSD Undergraduate; CSD Masters in Speech Language Pathology (SLP); and the new MA SLP Online program (established in Fall 2023). The CSD Department also houses the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center, one of four health care clinics in operation on the UNCG campus. The UNCG Speech and Hearing Center is a HIPAA-covered entity and provides health related SLP and Audiology (hearing) diagnostic and therapy services to the UNCG community, the Triad, and to the state of North Carolina. As a HIPAA-covered entity, we are mandated by U.S. Federal rules (laws) and regulations to abide by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act of 1996. The number of patient visits on an average calendar year is approximately 4000. The UNCG Speech and Hearing Center operates full time, year-round and is open to the general public. Our UG program is a pre-professional degree, which also accepts second-degree students who are preparing to apply to graduate school. Our SLP Master’s degree programs are two-year programs, in which our CSD Department provides both academic and clinical training. Our program provides supervised clinical training for first year SLP graduate students in the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center.

Position Summary:This position provides financial and business support to the Department Chair and faculty members of CSD by gathering data, researching information, reviewing/preparing reports and acting as a liaison between the Department Chair and upper-level administrative staff, the university community and the general public. This position handles a complex budget from multiple funding sources, purchasing and personnel work for a large, complex department. The position supervises departmental staff and student workers. The position requires a knowledge of university policies and procedures and accounting/business standards and practices.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Key Responsibility:Maintaining, reconciling, or adjusting financial records
Essential Tasks:- Financial management responsibility for departmental funds and multiple grant funds totaling over $5 million per year, and their subsequent accounts from a variety of funding sources, including state overhead, grant funds and discretionary.in accordance with university, state and federal guidelines.
- Independently creates, updates and maintains internal budget spreadsheet in Excel to assist department head with administering and meeting strategic goals of department and HHS unit. Oversight and management of fund balances for CSD using in depth knowledge of Banner to determine fund balances and to reconcile internal account balances on a monthly basis.
- Oversight of purchasing and procurement of supplies and services for the CSD Department and for the UNCG SHC Independently develops and provides financial accounting reports to the Chair monthly. Reconciles purchases with University PCard system monthly for office staff and maintains all corresponding records requiring knowledge of university guidelines regarding use of a variety of funding sources.
- Forecasts department needs and addresses financial issues with the Chair as necessary. Assists Chair with coordination and prioritizing funding requests based on account history. Transfers funds between object codes, initiates flexes 3 – 4 times a year. Communicates with financial departments (A/R, Budgets, C&G) to solve problems of a unique nature regarding payments, reimbursements or budget issues. Closes out the fiscal year in June.

Key Responsibility:Preparing, reviewing, or processing forms, reports, or documents
Essential Tasks:- Maintains and files reports/documents such as financial documents (invoices, travel forms, reimbursements); personnel documents for over 35 employees; department business files and annual reports. Independently prepares and submits financial documents, such as BANFINs, TRV-1’s, and inter-office invoices. Serves as departmental expert for unusual or novel situations regarding the integration of multiple funding sources and guidelines pertaining to preparation of documents.
- Completes recruitment and hiring paperwork for new hires. Independently prepares and submits personnel documents (PD7s; EAFs; EPAFs) for faculty, visiting faculty, and SHRA employees. Works with multiple departments and units across campus to coordinate and facilitate funding solutions and preparation of documents to facilitate internal and external funding sources. Checks and or reconciles data for instructional analysis, time certification, salary reports, and purchasing reports.
- Using knowledge of department and university policies, assimilates information and develops reports to provide data and analysis for the Department Chair to assist with decision making and reporting to HHS Dean. Consults with the CSD Chair and UNCG SHC Director and assists in the preparation of annual reports and national ASHA certification documents for the Master’s SLP program.

Essential Tasks:- Builds and maintains positive working relationships with faculty and staff both in CSD and across campus to facilitate projects and assist Chair in duties.
- Independently and appropriately responds to inquiries from all levels of employees on behalf of the department.
- Attends faculty meetings and university administrator meetings as needed as a representative of CSD and to stay abreast of university needs and issues
- Oversees the administrative process during department searches, personnel evaluations, and external reviews.
- Promotes excellent customer service offered by the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center, which is open to the public, and attends to issues pertaining to client satisfaction and ADA compliance.

Essential Tasks:- Supervises three CSD staff positions numbers 2647, 14379, 998598. One position works with the CSD Department’s three academic programs, one position that serves as a clinical associate, and the other staff position works with the UNCGSHC and patient files and patient billing.
- Supervises CSD work study students who work in the CSD Office (Ferguson 300). Assigns and prioritizes tasks for CSD staff and work study students. Participates with CSD Faculty Chair in annual evaluations of CSD staff members.
