Position Summary
The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing software programs and processes that direct all CNC machines to produce components for high quality gear boxes per engineering designs. This position reports to the Plant Manager and is located in Flowery Branch, GA.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Create programs and processes to produce machined parts on CNC machines; specifically, DMG Mori lathes, Okuma lathes, Okuma mills, Gleason hobber, Mitsubishi hobber, and Haas milling machines using Gibbs Cam software.
- Trouble shoot programs, tooling, fixtures, etc. to streamline processes for maximum efficiency.
- Plan and perform diversified machining operations to produce tool, fixture, gauge components necessary for customer specifications.
- Plan operations, machining step sequencing, select tooling, machine attachments and work holding methods, set spindle speeds, and tool feed rates.
- Assist the production machine operator in performing tool tryouts on new or modified tools.
- Ensure the latest tooling technologies are utilized where applicable.
- Interpret and analyze customer drawings, sketches, and design data of parts to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates.
- Constantly reach for cost savings and productivity increases around speed / feed rates and tooling.
- Able to perform in a team environment and participate in team projects.
- Follow all safety rules, use proper PPE, and report any safety concerns.
Experience and Education Required
Two-year degree in CNC programming and advanced machine tool preferred.Three+ years of varied CNC programming experience.Capability of programming across diverse machines with varying machine life and capabilities.Program and process machines using CAM software, preferably Gibbs Cam.Requires knowledge of machining practices and techniques, mechanical principles and mathematics, setups, tooling applications and machinability of materials.Technical Skills
Knowledge of machining methods, techniques and operating skills necessary for exacting tolerances and finish requirements, interrelated dimensions, formed sections and contoursAbility to work from drawings, routers, sketches and job layoutsAbility to read various measuring equipment including scales and dial indicatorsWorking knowledge of CNC machine control panelPhysical Requirements
