You will care for an average of 13-15 patients per shift. Common duties include nebulizer treatments, airway management, vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP, and ventilator management. Responsibilities also include ABG collection, bedside pulmonary function tests, and chest physiotherapy. In the ICU, therapists may place A-lines, manage blood gases, perform intubations, and conduct bronchoscopies. Patients typically present with conditions such as COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers. Assignments are based on unit needs. ICU therapists may manage up to 4 airways per therapist. Average staffing includes 11 therapists on days and 10-11 on nights. Floor therapists must have a minimum of one year of experience, while critical care positions require a minimum of two years. Candidates must be confident in suggesting ventilator management strategies, interpreting ABGs, and recognizing critical values. Charge Respiratory Therapist responsibilities include clinical coordination. Weekend and holiday shifts will be rotated with permanent staff. Scrub color is ceil blue, with the option to wear a ceil blue jacket. No call is required for this position.
