POSITION SUMMARY :

Knowledgeable of wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral, performs crisis intervention. Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition : "The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alternations." Ability to utilize the best nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and / or significant others. The successful candidate will be required to pass competencies for this position.

POSITION EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS :

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
• Current registered nurse's license in the State of Texas
• Current BLS certification.
• Accepts assignment to any behavioral health unit
• CPI training within 30 days of hire date
• Computer skills required to be effective on assigned units
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
• Prefer hospital experience

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his / her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure : This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
