Position Description
DEFINITION :
To provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to college students through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, and clinical experiences. Clinical sessions include a maximum of 20 hours per week to include daytime, evenings, and / or Saturdays.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED :
- Receives general supervision from Program Director, Dental Hygiene
- May receive general supervision from full-time clinical faculty.
- Exercises no supervision.

Essential Functions :
Provide classroom, laboratory, and / or clinical instruction to students.Collaborate with lead course instructor on course development and assessment tools.Evaluate student performance in the classroom, laboratory, and / or clinical setting.Provide demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area.Provide feedback and remediation as necessary for dental hygiene students.Attend monthly clinical faculty meetings.Attend clinical calibration meetings.Other Important Functions :
Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lessons format.Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriateQualifications
QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge of :
Professional skills, knowledge and attributes within the dental hygiene profession.Classroom, laboratory, and clinical instructional techniques and procedures.Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures.Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.Dental software for record keeping.Dental software for dental imaging.Management of medical emergencies in the dental clinic.Ability To :

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :
Minimum Education / Training :
Graduate of a CODA accredited dental hygiene program.A baccalaureate or higher degree.Evidence of academic preparation consistent with the American Dental Association Commission standards for accreditation. This includes documented background in educational methodology, techniques, and instruction or ability to complete within three months of hire date.Local Anesthesia certification or ability to complete within three months of hire date.Minimum Experience :
Minimum of three calendar years’ experience in the clinical practice of dental hygiene.License / Training :
Current North Carolina Dental Hygiene License.Compliance with required immunizations.Current OSHA training.Current HIPAA training.Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.Preferred Education / Training, Experience, Skills :
Teaching experiences in dental hygiene at or above the program level.Member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association.Supplemental Information
