Job Title : Health Information Technician
Location : Lebanon, OH
Schedule : Monday–Friday, 7 : 00 AM – 3 : 00 PM
Work Schedule : No weekends or holidays
Work Arrangement : On-site
Position Summary
The Health Information Technician provides administrative and clerical support related to the management, organization, and confidentiality of patient health information. This role ensures medical records are complete, accurate, properly filed, and accessible in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities (Listed in Order of Importance)
Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness and required signatures.
Organize medical reports for proper placement within patient files and charts.
Prepare and type health information forms, including charts for new admissions and requests for specific reports or certificates.
Compile and type statistical reports such as daily and monthly census data, Medicaid days, admissions, discharges, and length of stay.
File reports into health information records, maintain logs and filing systems, and retrieve records as needed.
Provide authorized information from health information records after determining appropriateness of requests.
Coordinate with other departments regarding health information records procedures.
Perform general administrative duties including scanning, faxing, emailing, scheduling meetings, and coordinating conference calls.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong administrative and clerical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard office equipment (scanner, fax, copier).
Knowledge of health information technology and medical records management.
Familiarity with JCAHO and Medicare / Medicaid regulations related to medical record keeping.
Understanding of confidentiality requirements for patient information (HIPAA).
Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to proofread medical reports, identify errors, and recognize missing documentation.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to gather, collate, and classify data.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) courses or nine (9) months of experience in records management.
One (1) course or three (3) months of experience in medical terminology.
One (1) course or three (3) months of experience in typing.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience meeting the above requirements.
Worker Characteristics
Ability to work with routine problems involving limited variables in a familiar work environment.
Ability to write routine business correspondence, evaluations, and records following established procedures.
Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining medical records.
