This 40-year-old company has out-worked its competitors and weathered enormous changes in tech and culture by being smart and nimble about what it sells and how it sells it. In that impressive tradition, it’s looking for a gifted product pro to bring a vision about what the pipeline should consist of for the near future. Do you have a history of identifying and successfully building new products and features to answer customers’ needs and wants, with an eye toward distribution across multiple channels and platforms? If so, you’ll really want to get in on this gig, since it’s a very important strategic role with a legendary specialty retailer.

Nitty Gritty

The company’s core ecommerce capabilities are yours to build out and grow through inspired identification and execution of new business opportunities. To get there, of course, you’ll call on your existing knowledge of the retail market as well as on your monitoring and analysis of trends, competitors and customer feedback. You’ll be driving the product discovery process and filling the product roadmap, with customer satisfaction always a top consideration. Working in an agile environment, you’ll develop use cases, draft requirement docs, assess the feasibility of products and features, and then collaborate with diverse teams (design, UX, engineering, etc.) to get things built to spec. Once your product has launched, you’ll measure its success against the smart goals you set earlier, and report your progress to key stakeholders. Obviously this’ll be done across channels and with numerous concurrent products at various stages of development.

You’ve been solving customer problems and defining and releasing products for ecommerce platforms for more than five years now. You absolutely love collecting and evaluating the ideas that pour in from customers, peers, even the IT guy who crawled under your desk to reconnect those wires that time. You know a good idea when you hear it or think of it, and you know how to get it out onto the market. You’re completely at home reading through technical documents but can then turn around and interpret them in clear and simple English to people who aren’t at all at home in such material. Besides your analytical skillset, one of the keys to your ability to get things built is your knack for cross-functional collaboration — you love dropping in on and picking the brains of people in creative, marketing and merchandising roles; it rounds out your idea set, it energizes you, and it arms you with the resources you need to get things across the finish line.
