Job Title : Sterile Processing Tech
Location : Bethesda, MD
Shift : 5x8 Days (7 : 00 AM - 3 : 30 PM)
Contract Duration : 13 Weeks
Weekly Gross : $1800 Weekly Gross
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Supervises Sterile Processing staff; manages scheduling, staffing levels, training, and performance evaluations.
- Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates certification, onboarding, and ongoing education programs for SPD staff.
- Oversees all processes in decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Manages inventory levels of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies to ensure availability and operational readiness.
- Reviews and maintains preventive maintenance (PM) contracts and schedules for SPD equipment.
- Provides case-picking education, training, and competency assessment for all SP employees.
- Coordinates transportation of borrowed instruments and equipment across multiple JHM entities and clinics.
- Ensures clear communication between OR teams, vendors, SPD, and external clinical sites.
- Supports recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention of qualified Sterile Processing staff.
- Oversees instrument tracking accuracy, biological monitoring logs, sterilization records, and QA documentation.
- Implements workflow improvements, quality initiatives, and safety standards to enhance department performance.
- Ensures compliance with manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs) for all instrumentation and reprocessing protocols.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with OR leadership, surgeons, vendors, and supply chain teams.
- Audits instrument trays, reprocessing practices, and department compliance to maintain regulatory readiness.
Required Education & Experience
Minimum 5 years sterile processing experience with an Associate Degree.Minimum 9 years sterile processing experience without a college degree.Minimum 3 years management or supervisory experience in Sterile Processing.Bachelor's degree preferred.Required Certifications
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) – or CBSPD certification.CER (Certified Endoscope Reprocessor) – or CFER (Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor).CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader) – or CSPM (Certified Sterile Processing Management).Key Skills & Competencies
Advanced knowledge of sterile processing workflows, instrumentation, and endoscope reprocessing.Strong leadership, coaching, staff development, and conflict-resolution abilities.Expertise in instrument tracking systems, inventory management, and equipment maintenance scheduling.Excellent communication and collaboration skills with OR teams, surgeons, and clinical departments.High proficiency in QA / Compliance documentation, biological monitoring, and sterilization parameters.Ability to identify workflow issues and implement quality improvement strategies.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.Vendor management experience for instrumentation repair, service coordination, and loaner processing.Strong decision-making, prioritization, and critical thinking abilities.Interested?
