Job Description

A Mortgage Underwriter will take responsibility for the daily underwriting processes for our Conventional, FHA and VA loans. Your attention to detail will have a direct impact on our customers' ability to secure a loan for their dream home.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Underwrite loans for compliance with investor and / or agency guidelines.
  • Submit loans through an automated underwriting system for a decision DU / LP.
  • Review appraisal reports to identify and resolve any discrepancies discovered and ensuring the property meets HUD MPRs
  • Perform thorough analysis of applicant's income and expense data, asset documentation, credit reports, and property valuations in order to affirm borrower qualifies for loan
  • Calculate qualifying ratios, determine creditworthiness; provide risk opinions
  • Determine if the loan file is eligible for funding, insuring according to internal, and agency guidelines. Assist with issues to facilitate and complete stipulations pertaining to shipping completed files.
  • Perform timely reviews of stipulations / conditions submitted.
  • Effectively and efficiently maintains standard underwriting turnaround time for new loan submissions, and standard underwriting turnaround time for resubmission.

Qualifications

  • An approved FHA, DE (Direct Endorsed) and / or VA SAR / LAPP Underwriter
  • 4 year minimum experience
  • Excellent customer / interpersonal service skills
  • excellent writing / verbal skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate and problem solve with other mortgage partners
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
