Near-Peer Tutor

SCHOOL YEAR : 2025-2026

LOCATION : APS High Schools and Elementary Schools

WEEKLY HOURS - .5 COURSE CREDIT : No more than 10 hours per week. No more than 6 hours per day, plus complete a self-reflection project and present it during the last week of the internship. Currently a 1 - 2 semester limit.

HOURLY PAY : $15 / hr stipend (No taxes withheld)

WHEN WORK HAPPENS : Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 AM - 3 : 00 PM unless instructed differently by your SEL Teacher / Advisor / Mentor Contact Name above.

Summary of Position

This position assists students in improving their academic achievement, supports them by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students who need supplemental help.

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide tutoring : Assisting students with specific course-related concepts and problems.
• Facilitate learning : Helping students develop effective study skills and strategies.
• Conduct tutoring sessions : May involve one-on-one, small group, or drop-in sessions.
• Communicate with teachers : May be required to discuss material being covered in tutoring and inform them of tutoring services.
• Attend meetings and training : Participating in regularly scheduled meetings and training sessions to enhance skills, especially teacher cadet program requirements.
• Create study materials : May be responsible for creating handouts or presentations to support tutoring sessions.
• Maintain confidentiality : Upholding student privacy and maintaining a confidential tutoring environment.

Working and Physical Conditions / Onboarding Requirements (

Please speak to your SEL Teacher / Advisor / Mentor regarding working and physical conditions at your intern site. You will also be required to sign and upload a W-9 and Parental Permission form. In addition, you will be required to electronically acknowledge Non-Disclosure and Internship agreements.

As part of your application, you will be expected to fill out your emergency contact information, school, and other personal information as required by Albuquerque Public Schools Work-Based Learning programs and the New Mexico Public Education Department. Failure to do so or omission, or erroneous information will result in your application being rejected.
