LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - SEASONAL - Range 11 / ENG

Seasonal Street Maintenance Worker

Open to the public, International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 302) members, and any current Municipal Employees.

This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

This is a seasonal position, which will last approximately six (6) months from the date of hire.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement :

• Internal applicants currently working under the International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 302) Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Local union dispatched applicants.
• External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement.

Under the general supervision, operates various types of light equipment, and performs manual labor to accomplish street maintenance activities including but not limited to : patching potholes, replace / repair sidewalks, cut brush, and snow removal from trails and sidewalks. Assist in the equipment maintenance including oiling, greasing, and changing wear surfaces on various types of equipment. Perform other required duties as assigned.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in the operation of light equipment. Must possess and / or obtain :

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDLB) or higher, with Tank endorsement, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his / her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with 40.25 and 382.405 (f) and (h).

All required certifications and / or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

As a condition of employment, the candidate selected must provide their Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
