Position Summary

Provides patient care support services in the Emergency Department under the supervision of an RN.

• Observes, reports and responds to patient’s physical, psychosocial spiritual, education, safety / risk and discharge planning needs on admission and on an ongoing basis.
• Performs direct patient care activities according to the plan of care and as directed by RN :  Placement of the patient on the monitor Obtaining and documenting of VS, I&O Insertion of foley catheters Patient transport Phlebotomy EKGs Wound care Joint immobilization / splinting / casting. Other care as needed
• Shares responsibility for organizing supplies, tracking, stocking and storing equipment and keeping the department clean and organized. Stocking / maintenance duties include :  Linens – rooms, carts, blankets in warmer Bedside equipment Suture trays and equipment. Monitor supplies at bedside. Refill O2 tanks under carts IV trays and carts
• Assists nursing team in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
• Cleans room upon patient discharge, prepares room for next patient.

Special Skills :  Excellent customer service skills and basic computer skills, knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
