What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and layout of fire sprinkler systems for diverse building types.
- Prepare accurate drawings and hydraulic calculations that comply with NFPA standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, field teams, architects, and engineers.
- Coordinate BIM models and perform clash detection/coordination in Revit/Navisworks.
- Communicate proactively with contractors, AHJs, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in fire sprinkler system design.
- NICET Certification required (NICET Level II or higher strongly preferred).
- Advanced understanding and practical application of NFPA standards (NFPA 13, 14, 20, 25, and local AHJ requirements).
- Strong BIM experience using Revit, Navisworks, and coordination tools.
- High proficiency with AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, and AutoCAD/Revit design platforms.
- Proven experience reviewing, coordinating, and redlining construction documents.
- Expert-level capability in hydraulic calculations, system optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor junior and mid-level designers and provide technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities (Senior Level)
- Lead the design and layout of fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, residential, and specialty projects.
- Develop, review, and finalize fire sprinkler shop drawings using AutoSPRINK and Revit.
- Independently perform and verify hydraulic calculations, system sizing, and performance compliance.
- Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to identify conflicts and resolve design issues early.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for project managers, field supervisors, GCs, engineers, and AHJs.
- Coordinate BIM models and participate in clash detection and coordination meetings.
- Create and review detailed stock lists and material takeoffs for all project phases.
- Prepare, review, and submit permit and construction documents for AHJ approval.
- Assist with and lead responses to Engineering RFIs, change orders, and design revisions.
- Support and assist with hydrant flow tests, site verification, and field coordination as needed.
- Maintain accurate historical project records for quality control and future reference.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA codes, local amendments, and company design standards.
- Provide guidance, quality control reviews, and mentorship to junior and mid-level designers.
- Assist leadership with process improvements, standardization, and design best practices.
Compensation Level
Compensation for this position will be determined based on qualifications and experience, including but not limited to:
- Years of fire sprinkler design experience
- Project complexity and diversity (commercial, industrial, high-rise, specialty systems)
- NICET Certification Level (highly weighted; NICET III–IV strongly preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, if applicable
- Level of technical independence and leadership capability
- BIM, Revit, and coordination expertise
- Fire Protection Contractor I or II
