The City of West Allis is hiring a Part-Time Library Cleaner to help maintain our public library. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in creating clean, welcoming spaces and enjoys tackling a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment.
As a Library Cleaner, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our 48,000-square-foot library and its surrounding grounds. Your responsibilities will include cleaning restrooms, sweeping floors, dusting furniture, and setting up equipment for events. Your efforts will help create a vibrant, inviting space for patrons of all ages.
This weekend position involves working on a rotating schedule. The hours are as follows :
- Friday 2 : 00 PM to 6 : 30 PM
- Saturday 8 : 00 AM to 12 : 00 PM and 2 : 00 PM to 6 : 00 PM (split shift)
- Sunday 12 : 00 PM to 5 : 30 PM

Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wash floorsDust and clean walls, windows, furniture, and equipmentClean restrooms : sinks, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountainsReplace supplies : toilet paper, soap, paper towelsFollow disinfection procedures for body fluids (e.g., blood, vomit)Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properlyReport unusual or unsafe conditionsEnforce safety rules and prevent vandalismSet up, move, and dismantle portable equipmentClean lighting fixtures and replace bulbsClean blinds and window shadesUse ladders or lifts when neededMove furniture and supplies within the buildingOccasionally deliver materials using a pickup truckSweep walkways and remove debrisShovel snow and control ice buildupUse snow blowers and other equipmentPick up litter around the buildingSecure the buildingMinimum requirements :
High School Diploma / GED.At least one year of recent paid work experience in general building cleaning is desirable.Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and good driving record per City policy.Ability to work weekday evenings and overtime when emergency conditions require such duty.Possess the physical capacity to perform the duties of the position including, but not limited to, the ability to perform manual work requiring average physical strength, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. with aides, frequent pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs.; occasional shoveling of up to 50 lbs.; the ability to work from a step ladder, and the ability to continuously stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, climb, twist, stoop, crawl, squat, lift, stretch and reach overhead, push, pull, etc.Ability to drive a light truck.Desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities :
Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in general building cleaning; some knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices; ability to perform a variety of building cleaning and maintenance tasks; ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public.This is a non-benefitted position.
