Heavy Equipment Operator
The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County is hiring for Heavy Equipment Operator positions. This job involves operating heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems. The position is full-time and located in Athens, GA.
Starting salary depends on qualifications. CDL positions have a hiring incentive. Reports to Public Works Crew Leader. FLSA status : Non-Exempt. Classification : Personnel System - Requires satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period. Pay Grades : Operator I - $39,535; Operator II - $41,512; Operator III - $43,587. Safety sensitive : Yes - CDL subject to random drug testing.
Purpose of Job : Operator I : To operate heavy equipment to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems. Operator II : To operate all heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems. Operator III : To assist in the supervision and operation of all heavy equipment and vehicles to construct, maintain, and improve streets and drainage systems.
Minimum Training & Experience Required : Operator I : High school diploma or equivalent with one year of heavy equipment operation or related experience. Operator II : High school diploma or equivalent with two years of heavy equipment operation or related experience. Operator III : High school diploma or equivalent with three years of heavy equipment operation or related experience.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities : Operates all Streets & Drainage Division equipment & vehicles; performs traffic control setup; performs functions associated with the use of all hand and power tools; transports supplies and equipment; performs routine maintenance on equipment; responds to after hour emergencies; assists in assessing proper work methods and procedures; picks up and delivers inmates; ensures compliance with security for and safety of inmates; monitors inmate activities; maintains communication with Corrections Department; makes repairs and performs preventative maintenance on small engines, hand / power tools; trains division staff on the safety and proper use of hand and power tools and heavy equipment; reads construction plans and performs take off for ordering materials; keeps the warehouse safe, organized, clean, and stocked; keeps the yard safe and clean; maintains warehouse and yard security; updates and maintains the MSDS manuals with Right to Know information; keeps up to date on OSHA requirements and ensures the Warehouse and property is in compliance.
Supplemental Information : Physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form / spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, and physical communication are also required.
