Our client, a pioneering energy company developing advanced technologies in the nuclear and clean energy space, is seeking a System Design Engineer to support sodium processing system design and integration.
This role focuses on designing and integrating complex mechanical and fluid systems while coordinating with vendors and ensuring alignment with regulatory and engineering standards.
Location: Bellevue, WA – Hybrid/Onsite
Duration: 12+ months
Compensation: $65.00 - $90.00 per hour.
Additional Compensation: This position is not eligible for bonus or incentive compensation.

Summary:
• Support design and integration of sodium processing and related plant systems
• Coordinate with vendors to ensure hardware design meets system requirements and design intent
• Contribute to development of system-level engineering documentation and specifications
• Integrate multidisciplinary analyses into cohesive system designs
• Support delivery of complex plant design packages in a highly regulated environment
Key Responsibilities:
• Design nuclear and industrial systems from requirements through final design
• Provide oversight to vendors developing mechanical systems and components
• Coordinate and review analyses including thermal, structural, seismic, pipe stress, and heat transfer
• Integrate hardware and component designs into overall system architecture
• Apply appropriate design codes and standards such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, and NFPA
• Analyze and allocate regulatory requirements to system designs
• Support planning and maintain schedule adherence for system design activities
• Manage and coordinate design deliverables including P&IDs, 3D models, and interface drawings
• Provide technical direction and oversight to suppliers, ensuring timely and quality deliverables
• Develop and maintain system requirements and engineering design specifications
• Support and oversee system testing and qualification programs as needed
• Generate complete design packages including calculations, reports, and engineering documentation
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
• 4+ years of experience in mechanical or chemical system design
• Strong mechanical and/or chemical engineering fundamentals
• Experience with fluid systems, structural analysis, and engineering calculations
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and lead design efforts with minimal direction
• Experience managing complex projects with competing objectives and constraints
• Ability to work across multiple disciplines and manage concurrent priorities
• Experience working under quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence
• Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and ability to collaborate effectively across teams
Nice to Have:
• Experience with high-temperature systems or nuclear chemical process systems
• Experience with sodium systems or advanced reactor technologies
• Experience with fluid system component design
• Experience integrating vendor-supplied equipment into system-level designs
• Experience supporting design for nuclear or highly regulated infrastructure projects
