Language Access Program Manager
The Language Access Program Manager is responsible for developing, administering, and overseeing statewide language access initiatives for the Kansas Judicial Branch. The position reports to the Chief of Access to Justice Initiatives.
Examples of work performed include :
- Serving as the primary language access coordinator for the statewide judicial branch
- Developing language access resources, programs, and educational materials
- Revising forms, publications, and website content
- Developing and maintaining interpreter information and resource materials
- Establishing systems for tracking language access metrics
- Providing training on language access topics
- Providing technical assistance, support to, and coordination for judges and employees
- Analyzing pertinent laws, court rules, and court policies and procedures
- Proposing, drafting, and implementing necessary court rules and procedural changes to ensure effective and consistent implementation of language access programs
- Overseeing fiscal and contractual commitments
- Coordinating, facilitating, and / or participating in a variety of meetings, conferences, and other related events to receive and convey information about language access
- Assessing and developing data collection practices, statistical measures, reports, and surveys to inform programmatic changes
- Assisting courts with language access planning
- Overseeing implementation of goals outlined in the statewide language access plan
- Staffing the Supreme Court's Language Access Committee
- Supporting other access to justice projects on an as-needed basis
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include :
Knowledge of court interpreting and translation practicesKnowledge of plain language principlesExperience with program planning and reporting, grant administration, court and governmental protocols, and criminal and civil justice processesKnowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to language accessStrong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skillsRequired education and experience :
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Languages, Interpreting & Translation, or a related fieldAt least two years of experience in a related fieldProficient in Microsoft Office applicationsA valid driver's licensePreferred qualifications :
At least three years of work experience within a court systemJuris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.), or other relevant advanced degree from an accredited institutionApplicants who can read, write, and speak fluently in both English and Spanish using correct grammar and syntax are preferred for this positionApplications will be accepted until : open until filled.
