SEASONAL LIFEGUARD I - Dimond / West Pool - Range 7 / AMEA

Lifeguard Position

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Department : Parks and Recreation Hours of Work : Hours vary; Monday through Sunday; between 5 : 00 a.m. and 9 : 00 p.m. Locations : Dimond Pool 2909 W. 88th Ave or West Pool 1700 Hillcrest Drive

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

This position provides supervision of participants to ensure the safety of all persons utilizing Municipal pools; communicates information to coworkers, immediate supervisor and the public; provides a wide variety of water safety instruction to children and adults; responsibilities also include performing facility and grounds security and maintenance; performing rescues, assists, first aid, CPR and functions of the Emergency Action / Management Plan; and performing duties related to maintaining swimming pool water quality standards. Incumbent must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Must possess the following valid certifications to apply :

• American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training at time of hire.
• American Red Cross or equivalent First Aid Certification at time of hire.
• American Red Cross or equivalent Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire.

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
