The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast-focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily example; providing training in methods, processes, and tactics, as well as creating and editing original content beyond that produced for on-air.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and leading a winning strategy for station content
- Having an expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms
- Reviewing copy and correcting errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following editorial style and formatting guidelines
- Using social media and website to build brand recognition and drive viewers to television
- Determining story emphasis, length, and format, and organizing material accordingly
- Researching background information related to news stories for accuracy
- Gathering information through research, interviews, and attendance at events
- Pitching on-brand local and trending stories during meetings
- Checking reference materials for relevant facts
- Shooting and editing content for on-air and digital platforms
- Producing reports for all platforms
- Ensuring content meets journalistic standards and quality
- Building and managing digital campaigns to promote shows and specials
- Writing stories for web and digital platforms
- Performing other duties as assigned
- Finding innovative ways to engage viewers via social media and the website
Requirements & Skills:
- Degree in journalism; experience with daily newspapers or news sites; live web samples or print pages preferred
- Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and basic HTML preferred
- Knowledge of CSS, Flash, and related technologies is a plus
- Maintaining a positive work environment through teamwork and cooperation
- Responding positively to feedback
