Overview:
ACS Professional Staffing is looking for an employee to work on-site with our client. This Technical Writer 3 will design and develop style guidelines, draft and maintain technical documentation, conduct interviews to gather content, and create user-focused materials such as manuals, process diagrams, and training content. This role will collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure clarity, accuracy, and usability across all deliverables. This full-time position is located in Vancouver, WA.
Pay Rate: $39.28 – $56.12

Responsibilities:
- Design and develop style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations to meet business needs.
- Develop/draft process, procedure, standards, and guidelines.
- Conduct technical interviews to obtain knowledge for documentation.
- Compile, organize and write online help files to support end-users.
- Document, edit, review, organize, publish, and present information consisting of requirements, design, business processes, policy, user manuals, reference manuals, and user-based scenarios (a workflow that describes all the steps, actions, and attributes taken to accomplish a specific task).
- Create, maintain and update installation instructions, training material and other technical documents.
- Create use- cases, process models and activity diagrams to support a project, coordinate efforts with business process activities when needed. Verify with user representatives that use cases and process models accurately portray specific business processes.
- Design/draft templates and tools to support the program and service management methodology, including creating, recommending and utilizing any tools.
- Draft documents including requirements, process diagrams, workflow maps, project plans, program management, service management documents, asset management documents, and Enterprise Architecture documents.
- As requested by the manager, coordinate typing, duplication, and distribution of material.
- Decompose high-level information into details.
- Abstract up from low-level information to develop documentation, clarify requirements and organize.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and/or methods of reproduction.
- Edit, standardize or make changes to material prepared by other writers or staff.
- Organize, refine, and recommend technical and functional concepts into a useful fashion.
- Plan, facilitate and conduct working sessions to analyze and document/map current state processes and value streams, and future state processes and value streams.
- Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to recommend operating procedure(s) and detail.
- Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedures and production sequence and detail.
- Elicit requirements to understand complex business systems and interdependencies with the upstream and downstream systems and put these concepts into a form readable and understandable by individuals with varying backgrounds and technical/skill levels.
- Organize material and complete assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
- Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts for incorporation into documentation to illustrate material.
- Maintain Service Catalog and documentation library for Policy, process, and procedures.
- Collect and develop detailed descriptions and specifications of user needs, business rules, functionality and steps required to develop or modify processes and procedures.
- Collect and interpret background information, technical input, options and recommendations that will enable Service, Asset, and Enterprise Architecture program management development and enhancements.
- Communicate complex technical information with a wide variety of technical and business experts in both individual and in-group settings.
- Confer with customers and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to establish technical specifications and recommend materials to be developed.
- Perform analytical tasks related to current and future operational and business capabilities including requirements definition, validation, maintenance and supporting documentation (i.e. process flows, user stories, use cases) and related testing.
- Consult with organizations to analyze business process-supporting technology needs, and documents new processes for end-user retrieval of data and/or information. Promotes the use of technology and technology tools to support continued efficiency and improvement in departmental processes.
- With Manager oversight and approval, coordinate the writing of curriculum for Transmission Technology and monitor the instructional process in all content areas using technology.
- Assist in the development and implementation of manager approved technology training to include NERC/CIP and other Operations Technology Training.
- Assist with drafting statements of work for the development of training material.
- Work with subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs.
- Draft and outline the concept for a course or curriculum, defining (needs for) the course medium, content delivery, assessments, accompanying materials, and complementary learning approaches.
- Work with the vendors providing Instructional Development and verify deliverable to completeness to the drafted statement of work.
Requirements:
- A degree in English, Communications, Information Technology, Business Systems, Computer Technology or a closely-related technical discipline is preferred.
- With an applicable associate’s degree: 6 years of experience.
- With an applicable bachelor’s degree: 4 years of experience.
- No Degree: 10+ years of experience is required.
- Experience should include technical writing experience with an emphasis on information technology and business systems.
- 4 years of demonstrable technical writing and editing experience with an emphasis on developing and writing application help, system design and supporting documentation functions.
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to present information in various forms such as textual, graphical and statistical.
- Understand and follow established processes and procedures, including change management, work/task tracking, and time management and organization of Microsoft SharePoint for document management.

- Possess ability to facilitate groups through process design and requirements gathering sessions.
