Student Worker Examination No. 21-017

San Diego Superior Court is seeking full-time college students in order to establish a new eligible list of Student Worker employment candidates. The eligible list of candidates resulting from this recruitment will replace the previous list, and may be used to fill Student Worker vacancies in all court locations as they occur and are approved to be filled. Names of qualified candidates are kept on the Student Worker eligible list for six months. After which, students are welcome to re-apply as long as they meet the minimum qualifications and the recruitment is open. Under supervision, Student Workers perform a variety of duties in support of court staff.

Types of Student Worker Positions:

• Office/Clerical Support: Provides general clerical support to various court offices. Typical duties include pulling, delivering and filing cases; answering phones; making copies; stocking supplies; and opening mail.
• Stores/Supplies: Provides support to the Stores/Supplies/Property office of the court. Typical duties include delivering mail, office supplies and furniture using hand trucks or dollies; assembling office equipment and furniture using small hand tools; and acting as a courier delivering mail and supplies. A valid California Class C driver's license is required.
• Children's Waiting Room: Assists with the care and supervision of children whose parents or guardians are at the court on related business.

Court Locations:

• Downtown San Diego Central Division Traffic and Juvenile Courthouses (Kearny Mesa area of San Diego)
• North County (Vista)
• East County (El Cajon)
• South County (Chula Vista)

Salary placement depends on whether selected candidate is an undergraduate or graduate college student:

• Undergraduate student (pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree): $16.90/hour
• Graduate student (pursuing a Master's degree or higher): $18.05 - $20.93/hour, depending on semester/quarter units completed

Maximum work hours are 20 hours per week (even during spring, summer, and winter breaks).

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must be full-time college students currently enrolled in at least 9.0 semester units or 12.0 quarter units at an accredited college or university. The minimum unit load requirement is waived for students with a permanent disability.

In addition to the online application, it is also your responsibility to submit the following required documents to Human Resources: (1) A Student Unit Load Verification Form completed by your college/university registrar, verifying that you are currently enrolled in at least 9.0 semester units or 12.0 quarter units of coursework. Please email CourtHR@sdcourt.ca.gov to request the verification form.

And (2) Your current official transcript. If your college/university offers an electronic format (e-transcript) and you choose that option, your electronic official transcript may either be included as a PDF attachment to your online application, or emailed directly to Human Resources at CourtHR@sdcourt.ca.gov. An unofficial transcript or JPEG pictures of your transcript will NOT be accepted. For students with a permanent disability, the minimum unit load requirement is waived. However, a letter from a licensed medical physician or the disability support services office of your school verifying your permanent disability status is required.

Selection process: As vacancies approved to be filled occur, active candidates who match the selected position type (e.g., Clerical/Office Support, Stores/Supplies, etc.) AND court location (e.g., North County, Downtown San Diego, etc.) of available Student Worker vacancies will have their names forwarded to department hiring managers. Placement on the eligible list does NOT guarantee that all candidates will be contacted by hiring managers for interviews, nor imply that there are immediate openings available for all selected types of Student Worker positions and court locations. Hiring managers are not obligated to interview every candidate on a list referred to them. Factors to be considered may include education, training, experience and/or work availability.
