Position Summary The Senior Laboratory Scientist is responsible for leading advanced laboratory testing, research, and analysis to support clinical, diagnostic, and public health objectives. This role involves overseeing complex laboratory procedures, mentoring junior staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to scientific research and innovation. The Senior Laboratory Scientist acts as a subject matter expert and plays a key role in maintaining laboratory excellence.
Key Responsibilities - Advanced Testing & Analysis
- Perform and oversee complex laboratory tests on biological, chemical, or environmental samples.
- Validate, interpret, and review results to ensure scientific accuracy.
- Serve as an expert in specialized laboratory techniques and methodologies.
- Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to laboratory scientists, technicians, and support staff.
- Train new staff on laboratory procedures, safety standards, and quality control.
- Act as a point of contact for resolving advanced technical and operational issues.
- Research & Development
- Lead or co-lead scientific research projects, including method development and validation.
- Collaborate with public health teams, universities, or research organizations.
- Contribute to publications, scientific reports, and conference presentations.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to laboratory quality systems and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, ISO, CAP).
- Review and approve test results, reports, and documentation.
- Conduct audits, implement corrective actions, and improve processes as required.
- Laboratory Operations & Equipment
- Supervise daily laboratory operations and workflow.
- Oversee maintenance, calibration, and validation of advanced laboratory equipment.
- Monitor inventory and ensure availability of high-quality reagents and supplies.
- Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support laboratory and public health initiatives.
- Prepare detailed scientific reports, presentations, and recommendations.
- Communicate findings effectively to management, partners, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications - Education:
- Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field required.
- Ph.D. preferred, particularly for research-intensive roles.
- Experience:
- 5-7 years of laboratory experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Proven expertise in advanced laboratory techniques and specialized testing.
