Job Description
General ResponsibilitiesPerform laboratory testing of construction materials including soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, and other materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project specifications.
Receive, log, prepare, and test samples submitted from field technicians or clients. Carefully document test results and observations and assist with preparation of laboratory reports for submission to Project Managers and clients.
Work closely with the Laboratory Manager, Project Managers, engineering technicians, and other team members to ensure accurate testing, reliable data, and high-quality service.
Maintain laboratory equipment, curing facilities, and work areas while following Terracon’s strict safety and quality standards.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities- Perform routine geotechnical and construction materials laboratory testing under the supervision of experienced laboratory staff.
- Prepare samples for testing including drying, splitting, sieving, weighing, mixing, molding, and curing specimens.
- Conduct laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards.
- Typical testing may include:
Moisture contentSieve analysis and #200 washAtterberg limitsStandard and Modified Proctor compactionAggregate gradationPreparation and curing of concrete cylindersConcrete compressive strength testing - Maintain accurate documentation of testing procedures, observations, and results.
- Communicate testing results and sample conditions to the Laboratory Manager and Project Managers.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment including ovens, balances, shakers, compression machines, curing tanks, molds, and other testing apparatus.
- Assist with specimen tracking, curing monitoring, and proper sample storage.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of laboratory workspaces.
- Follow safety rules and perform pre-task planning prior to performing laboratory work.
- Report safety concerns or equipment issues to management.
- Maintain Terracon’s high standards for quality and professionalism in all work.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, or laboratory work.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Previous experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work is helpful but not required. We are willing to train motivated individuals who are eager to learn and develop technical skills.
