Position Summary This is a highly responsible senior managerial/professional position within the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center and the Center for Molecular Medicine (Centers) that reports to the Center directors. This position will be one of two in the Centers performing similar duties and will be supported by one or more grants specialists under its supervision. The position is responsible for the Centers’ grant management (financial and administrative) from pre-award stages through termination of project to include tracking the stages of the process and preparing status updates for faculty. This position acts as liaison between the Centers and the Office of Sponsored Projects as well as funding agencies. This also entails assisting the Centers’ faculty with proposal preparation and processing as well as award administration. The Centers receive in excess of $ million from external funding. Exceptional communication skills (both oral and written) are required in this position as well as the ability to meet deadlines. This position attends meetings and serves on institutional committees to represent the Centers’ research interests. UGA Background Check website. Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Serves as an expert resource for various institutional departments for highly complex proposal development and non-typical reporting requirements as well as electronic research administration systems.
-Exhibits thorough knowledge of institutional and sponsor policies and procedures pertaining to external funding and finance and administration and advanced research administration.
-DLSA status for submission of all types of proposals to external funding agencies for consideration.
- Assists faculty in proposal development and award administration by independently managing the process of putting information on forms and independently creating proposal sections, or supervising those staff members who do.
- Assists faculty with proposal development by creating highly complex spread sheets, etc., that typically cross multiple variables and summarize complex parameters.
- Provides administration and direct support to Center faculty (as well as faculty in other UGA departments, other universities, or other external organizations who are collaborating with Center faculty) in proposal development and preparation by interpreting agency philosophy, policies, regulations, and guidelines to make sure the proposal conforms to such – to include developing the budget, budget justification, and support pages and submitting the proposal, then manage grant requirements for reporting, progress, etc. when awarded until it terminates.
- Responsible for signing Center proposals as the UGA Institutional Signatory and submitting the proposal directly to the funding agency. These proposals do not pass through OSP for approval. Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Effectively uses time and works well under pressure of deadlines.
- Advises Center faculty of proposal needs/requirements not yet met and other aspects of submission status.
- Determines how to comply with guidelines and independently follows through.
- Notifies Center faculty of upcoming submission due dates for mandatory progress reports as well as competitive renewals.
- Prepares administration portion of these reports and submits after receiving and inputting research portion from the faculty. These reports may be paper as well as electronic submission and have various hard deadlines. Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Handles all inquiries regarding needed grant proposal information by granting agencies, faculty, and/or OSP.
- Writes justifications for special approvals and chartstring account additions
- Adds appropriate documentation in the UGA grants portal for No Cost Extentions and Residual Balances
- Requests pending awards as needed to achieve seamless funding availability Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Attends Research Administration Discussion Group (RADG) meetings.
- Serves on and may chair campus-wide research administration task forces/committees, as requested.
- Participates in the development of policies and plans for the activities and management of grants, contracts, and related research requirements for the Centers.
- Maintains current knowledge of UGA and federal, state, and agency guidelines for Sponsored Research administration.
- Identifies funding sources and analyze the specific research areas and interest of faculty members to provide information regarding external funding opportunities; advise faculty regarding grantsmanship. Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Maintains database for active and pending grant support for assigned Center faculty and senior personnel. The database includes information regarding effort expended on grants, awarded budgets, grant periods, grant numbers, title, etc. This information will be used to prepare the current and pending forms (by specific formats for NIH, DOE, NSF, USDA, etc.) for Center grant application submissions.
