General Description

The Seminole County Sheriffs Office is now accepting applications for the position of SCORE NON-FATAL CIVILIAN INVESTIGATOR.

This position involves specialized work responsible for gathering receiving and processing information to assist people with Substance Use Disorders in navigating the healthcare system for the most suitable treatment options. Act as a liaison between Law Enforcement and the Healthcare System / Providers.

Objective of SCORE

The primary goal is to save lives by combating the Opioid Epidemic through a collaborative initiative. The SCORE Initiative has a comprehensive approach to funnel those who have overdosed and are being treated in the Emergency Department and transition them through a pipeline of detoxification stabilization and treatment / rehabilitation. SCORE will develop and implement a seamless collaborative stabilization and treatment solution to reduce opioid overdoses recidivism and mortality. This is a three (3) prong approach addressing and targeting Prevention Enforcement and Treatment (P.E.T.)

Salary is negotiable based upon related training education and experience.

The Seminole Collaborative Opioid Response Effort known as the SCORE Team consists of sworn agents and a civilian investigator who respond to overdose incidents in Seminole County within a 12-24 hour period. The SCORE team is unique in that they come from a place of empathy and compassion recognizing substance use disorder as an illness verses acting in a traditional law enforcement manner.

The primary purpose of the SCORE Team is to provide those who suffer from substance use disorder with treatment services which includes offering warm handoffs to Detox Facilities. The SCORE team takes pride in our follow up services to ensure and assist with sustainability of recovery. The SCORE team also does a great deal of community outreach to include; visiting Halfway Houses Sober Living Facilities and various other treatment facilities in an effort to provide continued support post treatment.

The SCORE team utilizes a collaborative initiative approach to build partnerships and relationships with several treatment facilities and community partners in an effort to streamline access to services. The SCORE team meets regularly with treatment providers the Department of Health (Community Paramedics) and other community resources such as Peer Support Specialists.

• Review of all case material formulating questions for subjects possibly interviewing subjects and researching Sheriffs Office general orders / policies as required. Maintains strict confidentiality.
• Prepares reports providing a summary of findings statements from subjects and other documents pertinent to SCORE.
• Answers incoming calls and responds to emails and general inquiries reference to SCORE.
• May plan produce and conduct training / educational programs to assist other Law Enforcement Organizations and Community partners to educate them on the SCORE initiative.
• May act as a liaison for the agency or division; may serve as an active participant in various committees.
• May act as a proctor / representative for various SCORE / Sheriffs Office functions
• Conduct follow-up interviews with patients families and healthcare providers.
• Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

External applicants for employment will submit to a thorough background investigation which includes but not limited to past employment / education verification driver license review credit history prior drug use history arrest / conviction record and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA) testing. A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. Any dishonesty or deception on the Employment Application will disqualify your application.

The background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicants background and position for which youve applied. Applicants selected for employment will be provided a conditional offer and required to submit to a medical examination with drug screening.

Candidates must also comply with the Agencys current Tattoo and Body Ornamentation Policy. A copy of General Order 28 - Dress and Appearance can be accessed here . An applicants tattoos and body ornamentation must be disclosed at the time of application and will be documented as part of the agencys review process even if otherwise meeting the Agencys policy.

Applicants not selected for employment will receive notification from the Human Resources Division to include justification based on the following disqualifiers : negative background failure to meet minimum qualifications as outlined in the specific job description or any additional information discovered during the interview process.
