JOB SUMMARY :
Under supervision and direction of the Shop Foreman, diagnoses, repairs and maintains company automotive equipment and performs related work as required. Work involves regular contact with other departments and divisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Drives and operates automotive equipment to determine malfunction and repairs and maintains all types of automotive equipment.
Inspects and tests equipment at prescribed intervals of time and usage or upon malfunction.
Overhauls internal combustion engines.
Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries and replaces transmissions and other parts.
Inspects, tests, aligns, wheels and maintains electrical systems and controls in automobiles. Examines protective guards, loose bolts and specified safety devices on vehicles and makes adjustments.
Balances wheels to minimize wear on tires and rotate wheels at prescribed mileage intervals. Tunes up engine to maintain combustion control standards. Adjusts equipment to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicles inspections and safety standards.
Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
Uses hoist wrenches, gauges, drills or grinders or other specialized auto mechanic tools and equipment.
Continual the-job training will be required to successfully maintain classification level. Tests will cover all phases of automotive technology. The testing will be administered and reviewed by the Transportation Manager or designated representative.
Regular Attendance Required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Maintains related records of maintenance and repair work. Keeps work area in a safe and orderly manner.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED :
Automobiles, vehicle steam cleaner, hydraulic hoist and shop equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in an auto maintenance shop, exposure to fumes, exhaust, heat, dust, noise and normal outdoor elements.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :
Graduation from high school and extensive mechanical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following :
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a valid Class A California driver's license.
Possession of two of the following ASE certificates :
Certifications from an automotive mechanic trade school will be considered in lieu of ASE certificates.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and to use hands to finger, grasp, kneel, pull, push, stoop, balance, climb, lift up to 100 lbs., stand for periods of up to 6 hours. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 50lbs and walk for periods of up to 2 hours. The employee is occasionally required to crawl and crouch and lift up to 100 lbs.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS :
While performing the duties of this job the employee reads, solves problems, uses his verbal & written communication skills, and has frequent customer contact.
