This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider's orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting with examinations and treatment. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of inmates and residents. The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure. Nursing skills are applied in the treatment of inmates and residents. The RN attends sick calls to prepare a list of inmates and residents for examination. The RN prepares the examining room and equipment. They operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required. The RN calls for medication and treatment orders and responds to emergencies. They examine and assess new inmates and residents with illnesses or injuries. Referrals are made to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities as needed. Emergency procedures are performed as necessary, notifying the Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. Job responsibilities include : Monitoring inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate. Providing guidance and supervision to nursing care provided by nursing staff. Maintaining a good working relationship with facility staff and outside provider agencies. Using established policies and procedures to make sound independent decisions. Regularly evaluating the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use. Maintaining absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Assisting in the review of medical files to ensure documentation of services provided. Monitoring potential catastrophic illnesses closely. Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as appropriately directed. Complying with all applicable pharmacy laws. Observing and recording inmate and resident behavior. Inspecting the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband. Providing health counseling and education as required. Assisting in preparing and maintaining operational records, reports, and logs. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures. Reviewing and processing legal documents and responding to lawsuits when necessary. Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient medical services. Preparing and disseminating safety and accident reports as required. Taking appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
