The Assistant Director of Finance
The Assistant Director of Finance role exists to assist responsibility for all accounting and financial requirements of his / her company, also for providing financial support, advice and expertise to the Managing Director and hotel team, with the aim of maximizing value. The main responsibilities of a Assistant Director of Finance are managing the accounting records and financial reports, providing an effective control, developing best practice financial accounting and control procedures, supporting, advising and developing his / her team.
Summary of Responsibilities
- To regulate, supervise and implement a timely, full and accurate set of accounting books of the company reflecting all its activities in a manner commensurate with the relevant legislation and regulation and subject to internal guidelines set from time to time by the company’s management.
- To effectively lead and supervise all the team members in finance including Sr. Staff Accountant and purchasing and other positions as mandated by the Director of Finance (DOF).
- To implement continuous financial audit and control systems to monitor the performance of the hotel, its flow of funds, the adherence to the budget, the expenditures, the income, the cost of sales and other budgetary items.
- Assist to timely, regularly, and duly prepare and present to management, financial statements and reports as required by the operations of the company.
- Maintain checkbook accounting to match forecasts. Do monthly round ups with all department heads to ensue that they are keeping in line with forecasts / budgets.
- Help DOF in generating where needed the weekly owners and operational forecast reports and other reports as mandated by the hotel’s Managing Director.
- Assist DOF with recruiting, developing and managing skilled financial and purchasing teams to achieve established objectives.
- Management and control of cashflow reporting and forecasting, ensuring use of funds maximized, cash availability to service debts as they fall due and that covenants are observed.
- Assist DOF and hotel’s Executive team to prepare and present an annual budget, other budgets, financial plans, business plans, feasibility studies, and all other financial and business documents as may be required from time to time by the company.
- Effective communication to management concerning financial and purchasing matters.
- Management of the accounting system to ensure detailed capture revenue, expenditure and balance sheet items to enable meaningful reporting.
