Academic Hospital Medicine Fellowship

The 1-year UCSF Academic Hospital Medicine Fellowship (AHMF) has been training leaders in hospital medicine since 2002 and has launched the careers of many successful physicians in academic medicine and healthcare.

The goal of the fellowship is to train the next generation of hospital-based leaders. The program is geared towards graduating residents or early career hospitalists who anticipate careers as clinician-educators or clinician-administrators in academic settings.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed a residency in Internal Medicine at an accredited, U.S.-based institution at the time of fellowship entry and must be a U.S. citizen.

This 1-year program offers key skills in leadership, quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical teaching. Fellows take coursework in research methods and have the option to enroll in specialized pathway programs, such as in medical education. Fellows receive regular individualized and personalized career developing and coaching sessions, and have access to many other leadership and professional development programs.

Clinical responsibilities comprise less than 30% of a fellow's total time. Fellow practice on both the teaching and direct care services at UCSF Health.

• A personal statement describing your interests, experiences, and rationale for applying to this fellowship. Successful candidates will be excellent clinicians with strong references and who demonstrate a commitment to UCSF PRIDE values ().
