  • The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Position Summary

    The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement (OVPFA) at Columbia aims to nurture and promote a vibrant climate of inclusive excellence through creative collaboration with University partners. OVPFA's primary focus is on fostering faculty development and community-building initiatives that will allow current and future faculty to thrive.

    Reporting to the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement, the Director of Faculty Support Initiatives is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing faculty professional development and school leadership support programming for Columbia University's 17 schools. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to : a) collaboration with the Vice Provost and Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement in leading, planning and coordinating Columbia's ongoing commitment to supporting, advancing and retaining faculty; b) facilitating centrally managed faculty development programming; and, c) long-term strategic planning with the leaders of each of Columbia's Schools to evaluate and strengthen their faculty initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    Program Administration :

    • Lead responsibility of the development, launch, implementation and independent management of initiatives that support faculty development, mentorship, and leadership training across Columbia University's 17 schools. This includes (but is not limited to) the Leadership Initiative for Faculty Training and Mentorship (LIFT) Program; the Faculty Mentoring Program; and the Faculty Chair Support Program. Support other faculty development programming and special projects in OVPFA as necessary.
    • Faculty Management :

    • Liaise with faculty and school leadership to promote new programming and build strong buy-in and participation from both junior and senior faculty across Columbia University's 17 schools. Partner with Provost's Office colleagues, including the Office of Work / Life, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Columbia Libraries, the Office of the EVP for Research, and others to improve and advance programming.
    • Meetings and Events :

    • Lead meetings and events related to faculty professional development, mentorship, and school leadership support initiatives. Hold listening sessions with faculty, deans, and department chairs to source feedback on programming and suggestions / requests for support. Support and contribute to meetings involving the Provost, Vice Provosts, and other senior faculty / administrators.
    • Faculty Data Analysis and Presentations :

    • Design and conduct program assessments on faculty professional development and Chair support programming initiatives. Analyze program feedback data to inform future directions and shape programming. Translate data findings into materials appropriate for the broader Columbia community and other, lay audiences. Support the Associate Provost in conceptualizing and conducting both recurring and ad hoc faculty data analyses for use by the Provost, Vice Provost and other high-level constituents.
    • Website / Other Media :

    • Contribute to the development of content for the office website and wider social media presence (e.g., Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, Slack, etc.).
    • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required and 5 to 7 years related experience in a university or other complex organization required.
    • Additional Position-specific Minimum Qualifications :

    • High level of discretion and ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Ability to work with all levels of administrative staff, faculty, and external constituents.
    • Demonstrated track record of providing project management, data analysis and / or research.
    • Excellent writing skills required, including the ability to write well for various audiences. Skilled in the use of Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Proficiency with website development / maintenance desirable.
