The UI Compliance Bureau has an exciting opportunity for a full-time UI Tax Representative. The UI Tax Representative position will provide taxpayer assistance and conduct compliance activities related to the employer tax and benefit provisions of the Idaho Employment Security Law; collect delinquent taxes; audit business records to verify proper reporting of workers and wages; make employer status determinations and investigate obstructed benefit claims.

The position requires day and occasional overnight travel throughout the State of Idaho. Valid driver’s license required.

Example of Duties :

Answers questions and provides assistance to customers by phone, email, and in person communication.

Assists employers in preparation of tax reports and computation of taxable wages and informs businesses of responsibility for timely filing and payment of taxes.

Interprets the Idaho Employment Security laws for employers, accountants, attorneys, and tax practitioners, and answers questions about department services and benefits.

Serves as an educational liaison through outreach and presentations to businesses, industry groups, and internal customers.

Determines and enforces compliance with employer tax and benefit provisions of the Idaho Employment Security Law through.

Conducts in-depth fact-finding and investigative interviews by phone, email, or in person discussions with employers, employees, subcontractors, tax practitioners, and attorneys to obtain sufficient information regarding state unemployment insurance coverage.

Issues determinations, including those related to coverage, tax rates, and monetary eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits. Represents the Department when determinations are appealed.

Collects delinquent payroll reports and taxes. Determines business ownership, encumbrances, assets, and the timing and method of collection.

Conducts financial audits of business records to determine wages paid, payroll tax liability and classification of workers.

Conducts extensive skip tracing activities and investigations on potentially fraudulent activity.

Minimum Qualifications - You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume and / or work history to your application. Good knowledge of :

• Financial record keeping methods. Typically gained by at least two (2) years of experience with a major job requirement of debiting, crediting and reconciling financial records and preparing summaries and reports, OR two semesters of college level Principles of Accounting.

Experience :

Interpreting, applying, and explaining laws and regulations. Typically gained by at least one (1) year of experience reviewing for compliance with laws and regulations (or policies and procedures; explaining to others how laws and regulations apply to specific situations; OR completion of a college level Business Law course.

Conducting interviews. Typically gained by at least six (6) months of experience conducting interviews to gather basic information needed to complete forms or to determine where to direct individuals for assistance or services.

Preparing written correspondence and reports. Typically gained by at least one (1) year of work experience that required composing and editing a variety of business documents on a regular basis; OR completion of semester long college level business writing course.

Using a personal computer to enter, retrieve, and edit information. Typically gained by one (1) year of work experience using word processing software to manipulation data and produces records and / or reports.
