STEM Student Support Services (STEM3S) is one of the Federal TRIO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education designed to identify and provide services for STEM students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Santa Fe College's STEM3S program identifies, selects, enrolls, retains, serves, and assists low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to increase the retention, graduation, and transfer rates of SF students who meet the program eligibility requirements.
The Academic Coach for STEM3S is responsible for identifying and selecting program participants and for encouraging students throughout their college experience. The Academic Coach helps them successfully graduate from college by providing personalized coaching, mentoring, academic advisement, assistance with filling out financial aid forms and school applications, providing guidance for efficient study skills, schedules tutoring appointments, and plans, drives (if needed), and chaperones related trips.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties :
Collaborates with the Coordinator to recruit eligible students for the STEM3S program.
Adheres to student eligibility as per the program and provides individual orientations of program services, including initial academic coaching sessions.
Provides ongoing academic and career advisement, coaching, and mentoring, which includes assisting students in choosing career paths, programs of study, classes, and colleges.
Assists students with completing transfer applications and financial aid forms and refers them to appropriate Santa Fe resources when necessary.
Implements and reviews various assessments with students and advises them on how to use results for career development.
Tracks, monitors, and maintains accurate records of student academic progress with periodic checks of transcripts and reviews of the early alert reporting system and runs reports to read and collect Academic Advisor and Instructor comments, contacting students to provide support as needed.
Responds to at-risk reporting with appropriate student outreach, referral, and follow-up.
Provides outreach to students through class presentations, college events, and other initiatives, some of which may include night and / or weekend commitments.
Plans university campus tours and cultural events for participants through coordinating dates and student meetings, and creating sign-up sheets, itineraries, and hotel plans.
Partners with the Coordinator to conduct research necessary for project evaluation, assisting in the evaluation process to include annual report, consultant visits and grant submission.
Adheres to grant requirements when collecting student data for the evaluation of quantitative program success and other grant items, distributing surveys to students to ensure accurate evaluation.
Assists the Coordinator in completing annual performance reviews and attends consultant meetings as needed.
Participates in the recruitment, selection, and training of academic subject matter tutors; coordinates tutoring schedules / sessions with tutors / participants; and supervises tutors during sessions.
Attends SF trainings and participates in collegewide committees, especially TRIO related trainings and Academic Advising Council meetings.
Develops and maintains professional relationships with SF, University of Florida, and community constituents.
Works closely with the STEM3S staff to effectively and holistically serve students.
Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws / regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required : A bachelor's degree in a STEM field, education, psychology, social work, or a related field; or an A.S. / A.S. in education, psychology, social work, or a related field with two (2) years of experience as a TRIO Academic Coach. One (1) to two (2) years of experience in TRIO, SSS, Student Affairs, or similar programs that serve underrepresented groups, preferably low-income, disabled, and / or first-generation students is required.
Additional Requirements : A criminal background check will be conducted. Applicants must have a valid Florida Class E Operator (driver’s) license and be authorized to drive for the college. Must be able to list 25 pounds without assistance.
Preferred : A master's degree in a STEM field, education, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field with three (3) years of professional work experience; demonstrated success in overcoming barriers similar to those of the project's target population or experience in working with this population; case management, educational advising, recordkeeping, documentation, and project evaluation experience; strong communication skills; and technological skills.
