Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown position requiring a compact or NE RN license, with BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital-based Cardiac Stepdown unit (CVU) with a Level I Trauma designationUnit provides intermediate care for cardiac and vascular patients, including downgraded CVICU and post-surgical casesTypical diagnoses include patients from thoracic program, cath lab, EP, structural heart, CHF, AFib RVR, and other cardiac / vascular conditionsNurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4, and 1 : 3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hoursUnit has 18 beds and uses the Epic EMR, with experience preferredRNs required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, and cardizemRemote telemetry techs provided but RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips12-hour day shifts (0630-1900), scheduled by management; no block or self-schedulingEvery other weekend required; no on-call responsibilitiesFloating to same or lower acuity units is requiredDepartment-specific orientation tailored to experience (typically 1-2 shifts)Navy blue scrubs requiredRNs provide direct monitoring and titration of cardiovascular medications for intermediate and post-surgical cardiac patientsCharge nurse is present on each shift but rarely takes a patient assignmentNurse aides / patient care techs are available on unit with a ratio of 1 : 18Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24 / 7, with cardiology on-call after hoursRespiratory therapists (RTs) are present 24 / 7 and manage equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannulaPass / fail open book exam covering orientation skills is required on the first Friday; a minimum score of 90% is mandatory to continue assignmentArtificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areasUp to 7 days of requested time off may be considered if submitted up front, with no additional time off approved during the contractReturning candidates cannot have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past yearFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyRequirements
Active NE or compact RN license at the time of application (pending licenses are not accepted)Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in a similar cardiac stepdown or intermediate care settingRequired certifications : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, all active at the time of considerationAbility to read and interpret telemetry stripsMust provide a valid driver's license for address verification (residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility)Cannot be currently employed, full time, part time, or PRN, with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or DignityReferences required : one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months, and one supervisor or peer reference from within the last 3 yearsBenefits
