Telephone Switchboard Operator

To provide intermediate skills in the operation of a large telephone switchboard system.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks

Operates telephone switchboard to establish or assist customers in making local or long-distance telephone connections.

Routes all incoming and outgoing telephone calls placed through the switchboard.

Provides answering service for various UTMB clinic after hours.

Assists doctors, students, and other staff members on problems with their pagers.

Provides information to callers and records messages.

Keeps records of calls placed and charges incurred.

Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Performs related duties as required.

Required Education / Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and one-year related experience.

Equipment

Central switchboard console, Western Union Telex, and Radio Page System.

Working Environment

Standard office / telecommunications environment.

Salary Range

Actual salary commensurate with experience.
