Position Overview

Under general direction of the Deputy General Counsel of Litigation serves as the Litigation Coordinator for the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of General Counsel. Organizes plans executes controls and evaluates the operation of all litigation logistics for the Office of General Counsel. Prepares discovery for IDHS attorneys in matters where the Attorney General is representing the Illinois Department of Human Services or its employees in court or before the Civil Service Commission. Prepares information including summarizing complex data or ideas for the Office of General Counsel attorneys that are appearing before administrative tribunals in Illinois. Coordinates Attorney General representation of Department and employees. Assists the Office of General Counsels attorneys in responding to third-party subpoenas issued to the Department in cases where the Attorney General is representing current and former Department employees.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction of the Deputy General Counsel of Litigation serves as the Litigation Coordinator for the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Office of General Counsel.
  • Prepares information including summarizing complex data or ideas for the Office of General Counsel attorneys that are appearing before administrative tribunals in Illinois.
  • Coordinates Attorney General representation of Department and employees.
  • Redacts and prepares electronically stored information (ESI).
  • Assists the Office of General Counsels attorneys in responding to third-party subpoenas issued to the Department in cases where the Attorney General is representing current and former Department employees.
  • Researches and reviews statutes administrative regulations Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Federal Rules of Evidence Illinois Supreme Court Rules Illinois Rules of Evidence Medicaid Waiver provisions administrative directives program directives policy manuals and workers action guides for attorneys.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required that are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience working in a legal environment such as a court law firm legal services organization or an in-house legal department of a government agency and / or corporation.
  • Two (2) years of experience creating editing and converting pdf documents utilizing Adobe Pro.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing correspondence utilizing software programs such as Microsoft Word.
  • Two (2) years of experience summarizing complex data or ideas.
  • Two (2) years of experience drafting and managing professional correspondence.
  • Possession of license as a notary public.
  • Work Hours : 8 : 30 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday
