About This Role

Oregon Aerial Construction (OAC) is looking for an Aerial Construction Ground Hand for our Portland, OR location. A successful Aerial Construction Ground Hand candidate must have knowledge of established aerial cable installation procedures and techniques, including the placement of poles and anchors, familiarity with a wide range of tools and equipment, ability to read and understand prints/maps, safety rules, and operating instructions. Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the repair or pole transfer.
• Cut, assemble and install cables, lashing, mounts, arms, bonds and guy wires.
• Install and maintain fiber, cable and phone equipment.
• Locate and repair issues quickly.
• Place, transfer and remove poles.
• Perform all City and D.O.T. requirements: Pre-trip, Vehicle condition report, etc.
• Pre-trip: Check vehicles before operating for proper functioning of equipment and safety devices.
• Vehicle condition report: Accurately documenting the condition of vehicle.
• Responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned vehicles up to standards of appropriate levels of cleanliness.
• Utilize tablets to complete proper ticket paperwork for billing and invoice purposes.
• Load materials in truck as required.
• Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

• Possess a valid CDL driver's license with a good driving record.
• High School Diploma from accredited school or its equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience in aerial construction or telecom trade.
• Ability to apply preventative maintenance and service to motor vehicles and motorized equipment and to make minor adjustments to correct performance malfunctions in the field.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
• Able to perform all duties in telecommunications construction (such as pole transfers, maintenance builds, new build, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction).
• Ability to travel.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds). Intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects (100+ pounds) and getting in and out of a truck several times a day. Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Competitive Pay

Pay Range is $23-$28 per hour, with adders also available for CDL holders. Pay is based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee. Applicants are required to pass all company drug testing, submit to a background check and adhere to all OSHA, state, city/municipality safety requirements and training provided by the company as required.
