Peer Specialist

The ACT Program Peer Specialist is an active member of the Staten Island ACT Team and works closely with each member of the team and the Program Supervisor and Director. The Peer Specialist will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer supports for participants. The Peer Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist participants in regaining independence within the community, learning and practicing new skills, helping participants monitor their progress, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies, supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services, facilitating treatment and recovery groups, and assisting participants in any area they require help. The Peer specialist has an important role in supporting the SI ACT Team's work with ACT clients.

Additional Requirements

Minimum one year experience in the behavioral health services or in the mental health setting

• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary psychiatric treatment and psychiatric rehabilitative team.

Provide home visits, visits in the community and hospitals and escorting clients to other collateral services. Taking client to and from appointments by using agency vehicle and/or taking public transportation.

Going up and down stairs and assisting clients as needed.

Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required; Associates, Bachelor's degree or Peer certificate preferred.

Valid driver's license in good standing required

Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, WORD, Excel, PowerPoint) and database navigation required.

Location: Staten Island, NY

Pay: $17-19.50/hr
