Department Summary: The mission of the Department of Urology within the VCU School of Medicine is the pursuit of excellence in all three areas of an academic surgical practice: patient care, teaching, and research.
A laboratory research assistant in the Department of Urology at VCU will work with our clinical research team including faculty, nursing, staff, residents, and other learners in the performance of clinical research work. The work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and is focused on the development of new technologies to improve the way we diagnose and treat overactive bladder and other forms of voiding dysfunction. We incorporate novel technologies into urodynamic testing including bladder ultrasound and Near Infrared Spectroscopy. The research studies are clinical and involve working in active clinical spaces, so professionalism and sensitivity to patient needs is a must.
