General Summary
The Sonographer performs all functions essential for the completion of high quality diagnostic sonograms, limited vascular sonograms and other related tests as ordered by the physician or practitioner. The Sonographer may also work in other areas of the Radiology Department based on departmental need.
Essential Job Functions
- Correctly identifies each patient and reviews each patient’s requisition either hard copy or in computer system, for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information
- Completes all necessary history concerning patient exam, including pregnancy and allergy information as stated in the department policy and procedure manual.
- Assesses patient condition, moves, assists, and immobilizes patients as needed to assure patient safety, comfort, and modesty
- Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to the Radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
- Assures that diagnostic equipment is utilized properly and proficiently in accordance with manufactures guidelines and departmental procedures
- Reports equipment failures to supervisor and annotates problem on the equipment log.
- Assures optimum image quality so that appropriate anatomical, pathological and / or physiological data can be obtained and interpreted by the Radiologist.
- Positions patients, selects the appropriate transducers and adjusts equipment in order to perform appropriate sonograms.
- Assists in the care of all associated equipment and supplies and assures that appropriate supply levels are maintained and work areas are kept clean.
- Follows manufacturers and infection control guidelines in cleaning and disinfection of equipment and transducers, and maintains required documentation and cleaning logs as required.
- Will perform all examinations in ultrasound under the protocols and guidelines established through training, Radiologist supervision, and policies and procedure.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
- Uses computer system to document correctly and accurately patient information, regarding scheduling and entering orders into the hospital information system and Radiology Information System.
- Manages images through modality-RIS-PACS and performs all established quality checks.
- Accepts and completes assignments as directed by the department Director.
- Follows work schedule, rotations, and call assignment and weekend / holiday rotations as required.
- Cross train into other modalities as assigned. Achieves Advanced Certification in ultrasound modalities within two years to three years of completion of cross training.

Qualifications
Education
Required : Graduate from an approved AMA program in Diagnostic Medical SonographyPreferred : Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Vascular Sonography education and trainingWork Experience
Required : New grads eligiblePreferred : 3 to 5 years progressively responsible experience in ultrasound with experience in vascular, OB / GYN, abdominal, small parts, Pelvis, Abdomen, some vascular examinations (DVT, Carotids, Aorta etc.)Licensure / Certifications / Registrations
Required :
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (or registry eligible). Registry in OBGYN, Abdomen, Physics, should be accomplished within one year from date of hire unless arrangements are made for special circumstances with the department director. Vascular Sonography experience and pursue RVS. Obtain RVS certification by one year from date of hire.Maintain CPR / BLS certification.NH State License for Medical Imaging-Sonographer effective January 1, 2019Preferred :
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with ARDMS, Vascular Sonography Experience (RVS) and RVS Certification.Other Skills / Knowledge
