[job_card.job_description]Prepares financial statements, statistical reports, and other required submissions Ensures compliance with GAAP, California School Accounting Manual, Education Code, and other applicable laws and regulations Reviews, audits, and resolves discrepancies in accounts and records Provides financial projections and makes recommendations to administrators Develops special and regular reports (e.g., annual budget spreadsheets, running salary and benefit projections, etc.) for the purpose of extracting and summarizing budget and financial data from the financial systems for management and school board information needs and decision-making, and for meeting state reporting requirements Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and / or records (e.g., cost analyses, payroll data, financial reports, budgets, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining an up-to-date trail for reference and ensuring compliance with established regulations Monitors a wide variety of financial information (e.g., position controls, staffing units, salaries, benefits, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining an up-to-date trail for reference and ensuring compliance with established regulations Prepares a wide variety of documents (e.g., reports, budgets / accounting transactions, income and costs analysis, financial reports, correspondence, requisitions, long-term debt schedules, etc.) for the purpose of providing complete and accurate documentation and / or audit trail Processes financial documents, materials, and data (e.g., budget detail, projections, report data, staffing units, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information in compliance with established requirements Performs cash flow analyses to project liquidity needs and ensure sufficient cash is available to meet operational requirements Monitors the timing of revenues and expenditures to identify potential cash shortfalls and recommend strategies to mitigate risk Provides regular cash position reports to leadership to support financial decision-making. Assists with compliance reporting and documentation for internal and external audits Researches and maintains current knowledge of policies, procedures, practices, laws, and regulations related to assigned functions Supports budget and accounting managers with data-driven insights Serves as a technical resource to staff and outside agencies on fiscal matters Provides training and guidance to staff regarding fiscal procedures and reporting requirements Coordinates with departments to resolve budgetary and payroll-related issues Participates in meetings, trainings, and workshops related to fiscal management Operates financial software and databases to prepare spreadsheets, reports, and reconciliations Maintains automated and manual financial records and ensures data accuracy Prepares queries and generates ad hoc financial reports as needed Responds to non-urgent communication within 24 school hours and urgent communication within two school hours Documents and refers to the school's management all formal disciplinary actions involving students; supporting management with addressing and resolving complaints from students and parents in a timely manner; ensuring compliance with the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act) Performs other duties as assigned Three (3) to five (5) years of increasingly responsible accounting or financial recordkeeping experience, preferably in a charter school Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field Strong understanding of budget development and monitoring, including multi-year financial projections Knowledge of financial regulations, charter school funding formulas, and compliance requirements (e.g., LCFF, federal, state, and local funding) State and federal fingerprint clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Ed. Code 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received, and Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance Proof of a clear TB Tine test or signed Certificate of Completion dated within the last 60 days (Ed. Code 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four years Computer and technology literacy : Operate office equipment, including a calculator, copier, fax machine, computer, and assigned software; Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, and other online collaboration tools to send and receive information Advanced analysis, forecasting, projection, and scenario modeling methods Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, financial modeling, and data analysis tools Compose a variety of documents and / or facilitate group discussions Analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions Schedule meetings and work with a significant diversity of individuals and / or groups Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and independent judgment in financial analysis and planning Ability to communicate effectively with school leadership, board members, and external stakeholders in both technical and non-technical terms Adapting to changing work priorities, communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules, working as part of a team, and working with detailed information / data General accounting, budget, and business functions of an educational organization Principles and techniques involved in payroll preparation and processing Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures Knowledge / experience with modular accounting systems, experience with Sage Intacct a plus Knowledge / experience with Standardized Account Code Structure (SACS) is highly desired Ability to anticipate problems, develop and implement procedures for resolution Analytical and detail-oriented Effective communicator with the ability to translate data into insights Strategic mindset aligned with the mission of the school Conflict resolution Record-keeping techniques Methods of collecting and organizing data and information Ability to independently work through and create solutions for ambiguous tasks and projects Ability to consistently make good decisions even when under pressure Ability to prioritize tasks and direct a team Sound management skills; evaluate and enhance practices that promote a strong team commitment to supporting the functionality of the department and operations of the school
Fiscal Analyst
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Fiscal Services, the Fiscal Analyst serves as a strategic partner in budget development and financial management. This role is responsible for conducting complex financial analyses, including modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning, to provide data-driven recommendations that strengthen budget accuracy, cash management, and responsiveness throughout the fiscal year. Working in conjunction with the Budgeting and Accounting functions, the Fiscal Analyst supports managers not only through advanced analytics but also by assisting with tasks and projects as needed to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial operations. The Fiscal Analyst collaborates with leadership to align financial resources with organizational priorities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Budget & Accounting :
- Compiles and analyzes financial and statistical data to prepare projections, studies, and reports
- Provides dynamic financial analysis to ensure accuracy of budget-to-actual performance throughout the fiscal year
- Collaborates with leadership to align financial decisions with the charter's mission and compliance requirements
- Analyzes revenue streams, enrollment trends, and funding allocations to forecast financial impact
- Identifies risks and recommends strategies to strengthen fiscal stability
- Develops function-specific computer applications (e.g. spreadsheets, databases, etc.) for the purpose of providing computerized processes for cost analysis, forecasting, and reporting
- Prepares, reviews, and reconciles journal entries, budget adjustments, and cash transfers
- Assists with the preparation, development, and monitoring of annual and interim budgets
- Ensures budget allocations align with school guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Prepares reports and statements for federal, state, and local compliance, including mandated cost reporting and audits
