Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and directs assigned staff in the design, development, and delivery of safety training programs, technical courses, line worker apprenticeship, and refresher training classes.
  • Manages the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Inc. safety program, ensuring alignment with corporate safety objectives, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, NESC) and ensures training and services align with organizational policies and industry best practices.
  • Supports the development of training and educational materials, ensuring alignment with ANSI Z490.1 standards for accepted practices in safety, health, and environmental training.
  • Conducts hazard identification and risk assessments, recommending appropriate engineering, administrative, or procedural controls to mitigate risks.
  • Participates in incident investigations, audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify root causes and support continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Promotes and supports participation in the NRECA Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP) to enhance safety culture and operational excellence.
  • Executes supervisory responsibilities following organizational policies and applicable laws, including hiring, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage stress and collaborate effectively with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned to support the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations from various regulatory entities, internal policies, procedures, and directives. Ensure ongoing monitoring and timely incorporation of any changes to maintain adherence to compliance standards.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Safety Management or a related field is required, plus 8 years of related experience and / or training in relevant fields. Alternatively, candidates may qualify with 12 years of related experience and / or training in lieu of a degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

FA / CPR / AED Certified (Instructor preferred or obtained within 3 months of hire)

OSHA 30-hour

Certified Forklift Trainer (or obtain within 3 months of hire)

Mobile Elevated Work Platform Trainer (or obtain within 3 months of hire)

Valid Arkansas Driver's License

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or other certification recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) (or obtained within 2 years)

Line Worker Training Certification / apprenticeship from a recognized source (Northwest Lineman College, T&D Power Skills, Southeast Lineman Training Center, or equivalent)

Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer Designation, OSHA 500 or 501 (obtain within 1 year)

Arkansas driver's license with a Class A or Class B CDL endorsement (obtained within 1 year)

BCSP-Certified Instructional Trainer (obtained within 2 years)

OSHA Excavation and Trench Safety (Competent Person)

Defensive Driver Trainer (Smith Driving, National Safety Council)

Fall Protection Competent Person Training from an accredited organization

Confined Space Competent Person Training from an accredited organization

This position involves moderately diverse and moderately physical work activities. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds and regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position may require periodic travel up to 50% of the time within a three-state area, including overnight stays. Field training and observation are required. The role may involve work during non-traditional hours and weekends. Participation in storm response efforts is required, including deployment on short notice, extended hours, and work in challenging conditions to support restoration and safety operations.
