About the Opportunity for a Benefits Specialist :
Medium-sized organization seeking an experienced Benefits Specialist to support full-cycle benefits administration during a busy period.
Hands-on role working closely with brokers, vendors, and internal HR / Payroll teams to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
Ideal for someone who has worked in a self-insured environment and understands retirement plan structures, plan documents, and vendor coordination.
Overview of the Benefits Specialist Role :
Administer full-cycle benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement programs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, carriers, and brokers regarding eligibility, enrollment, invoicing, and plan questions.
Process benefit invoices and work directly with brokers to reconcile discrepancies.
Manage benefits data within the HRIS system; ensure accurate deductions, enrollments, and reporting.
Support open enrollment, plan changes, and special projects related to self-insured plan management and retirement plan compliance.
Preferred Qualifications for the Benefits Specialist Role :
2-3 years of
hands-on, full-cycle benefits administration
in a medium-sized company.
Experience working with
self-insured medical plans
and understanding how plan funding and claims processes operate.
Strong working knowledge of
brokers, vendors, and carrier processes , including escalations and issue resolution.
HRIS benefits experience (any major system acceptable).
Ability to understand and explain
retirement benefit plans , including multiple plan types commonly used in higher education.
Excellent communication skills; able to confidently discuss plan details with employees, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Salary :
$60,000 - $75,000 annually
